Community Tips & Ideas

Collected wisdom from our makers — practical advice you can use today.

FDM

First Layer is Everything

Spend extra time dialing in your first layer height. A perfect first layer prevents 80% of print failures before they start.

Design

Design for Orientation

Always think about which way your part will sit on the bed. Orienting to minimize overhangs reduces support material and print time.

Resin

Shake Your Resin

Pigments settle at the bottom of resin bottles. Shake for at least 60 seconds before every print for consistent color and curing.

Finishing

Wet Sand for Smooth Results

Use wet sanding starting at 400 grit and working up to 2000. It removes layer lines without creating heat that warps thin parts.

FDM

Dry Your Filament

Moisture in filament causes stringing, bubbles, and weak layers. Dry PLA at 45°C for 4–6 hours before any critical print.

Business

Price for Time, Not Just Material

Most makers underprice their work. Factor in machine wear, electricity, post-processing time, and your skill — not just filament cost.
